Why do I need it?
Flood Insurance costs less than flood damage and floods are the #1 natural disaster! You may be insured for fire, but did you know that you're four times as likely to get flooded? Relying on the idea that Uncle Sam will save you from such a situation could be a false sense of security. Additionally, flood damage is never covered in general home insurance policies.
How much do I need?
Usually, you're not required to buy as much insurance to cover flood damage as you do to cover your entire house. The idea is because fires/explosions can easily destroy the entire house, while flood damage typically does not.
How much danger is there?
This depends on the surrounding geography near your home. You will need to find out what kind of Flood Zone you are in by one of the following methods:
- You may call your county CAD (Central Appraisal District) office
- You may have an elevation certificate done for your home
- You can call a local insurance agency, like us!
